DESIGN DYSPHORIA, a queer designer-led exhibition of 17 architects, artists and designers will open in Bushwick, New York on May 17, 2024 during NYCxDesign. Co-curated by designers and founders of Studio S II, Erica Sellers and Jeremy Silberberg, textile artist Liz Collins, and interdisciplinary glass and performance artist, Grace Whiteside, the exhibition emphasizes the cruciality of queer creative spaces to highlight how hey inform LGBTQIA+ art and design.

Dancing to the Music of You

"Dancing to the Music of You"is a multidisciplinary performance and art installation being produced by NYC non-profits InfraSound and ChamberQUEER. This production will be presented at the LGBT Center in Manhattan on May 3, 2024 at 8:00PM with open gallery hours 12-5PM. The part-performance part-art installation brings together a team of queer NYC based composers, sound designers, musicians, dancers, visual artist, and lighting designers to collaborate and create surrounding the queer body as it transforms and transcends. Along with newly commissioned musical works, this experience will include improvised musical responses by members of InfraSound and ChamberQUEER to sculptures from my ongoing series JUSTAPOSE including two newly-commissioned sculptures inspired by members of both ensembles.

While the industrialized built environment has placed inherent value in uniformity, this show is highlighting artists and designers that find and create value in irregularity. Elevation is found in their instinctual engagement with unusual materials and/or the creation of unique systems, essentially challenging the core values of aspirational design and consumer culture.
